Well the huge Big Ten matchup of Ohio State and Wisconsin didn’t disappoint! We talk about that game, and a few others in the conference in our Week 5 review!
Saturday, September 28th
Minnesota (home) vs. Iowa (away): Jake Rudock led the Hawkeyes with 218 yards passing and a touchdown. Fullback Mark Weisman led Iowa rushing the football with 147 yards. Minnesota was dominated on their defensive frontline and couldn’t stop those physical offensive linemen of Iowa. Iowa played with more energy and was faster to the ball every down than Minnesota even though it was a home game for the Golden Gophers. Iowa won this game convincingly 23-7 and improved to 4-1 on the year. #JYPREDICTION: Iowa
Illinois (home) vs. Miami (OH) (away): Nathan Sheelhaase displayed another impressive outing as he led the Fighting Illini to a 50-14 victory over Miami-Ohio in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday. Sheelhaase passed for 278 yards and five touchdowns. Illinois bounced back after a tough loss at Soldier Field against Washington and is now 3-1 on the year. #JYPREDICTION: Illinois
NIU (away) vs. Purdue (home): The Purdue Boilermakers came out fired up against NIU on homecoming and played well in the first half. However, football is a game that has four quarters and in the second half the Huskies showed why they are one of the premier teams in the country. Purdue’s playmaking running back Akeem Hunt was busy on the day with 37 rushing yards, 67 passing yards, and 61 return yards. Purdue got quality play out of freshman quarterback Danny Etling who passed for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions. Quarterback Rob Henry who had been starting for the Boilermakers passed for 130 yards with a touchdown and he also got picked off twice against Northern Illinois. The Huskies were led by Heisman Candidate Jordan Lynch who again displayed ultimate leadership and a will to win passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns also rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown. Northern Illinois wins this game 55-24 and stays 4-0 on the season. #JYPREDICTION: Northern Illinois
#23 Wisconsin (away) vs. #4 Ohio State (home): This was a tough and competitive game between two of the best teams in the Big Ten. All season the media had been more impressed with Wisconsin and people each week ask Ohio State to show more and more. Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio with NBA All-Star Lebron James in attendance, the Buckeyes showed the world that they are an elite team and focused on playing championship football week in week out. Braxton Miller, who made his return after a minor MCL injury, didn’t miss a beat and was clearly the best player on the field. Miller passed for 198 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 83 yards. In his season debut, Carlos Hyde led the Ohio State in rushing with 85 yards. Wisconsin was not to be outdone and played extremely well. The Badgers were solid on defense and prevented Ohio State from making huge plays, and got stops to stay in the game when it was needed. Wisconsin QB Joel Stave passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception. Melvin Gordon III was held in check with on 74 yards rushing and James White rushed for 35 yards with a touchdown. Ohio State won this game and remained undefeated at 5-0 with the score 31-24, strengthening their hold on the Big Ten in the process.. #JYPREDICTION: Ohio State
