We look ahead at Week 3 in the Big Ten. Some of the top teams in the conference will be tested this week, while others are welcoming ranked opponents into their home. Let’s take a closer look.

Minnesota (home) vs. Western Illinois (away): Western Illinois visits Minneapolis, Minnesota undefeated at 2-0. However, the Leathernecks will face a tough Gophers defense that has played hungry early on in the season. I’m expecting Minnesota QB Philip Nelson to pick apart Western Illinois through the air and on the ground. #JYPREDICTION: Minnesota

Indiana (home) vs. Bowling Green (away): Bowling Green has started off the season 2-0 against pretty good competition (Tulsa, Kent St). The Falcons QB Matt Johnson threw for 357 yards and two touchdown, and RB Travis Green rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown against conference rival Kent St last weekend. Hoosiers QB Nate Sudfeld has looked great thus far, but defensively Indiana isnt getting enough three and outs and that is the reason they will struggle against Bowling Green on Saturday. #JYPREDICTION: Bowling Green

Michigan St (home) vs. Youngstown St (away): Michigan State defensively have been impressive early on in this season. Spartans defense has gotten stops but they have also been the offense for Michigan State as well. Shilique Calhoun defensive end for the Spartans is such a good player and extremely talented. Michigan State offense has a chance to gain some confidence and prepare themselves for the Big Ten season against Youngstown St. #JYPREDICTION: Michigan State

#4 Ohio St (home) vs. California (away): Ohio State is one of the elite teams in the country who is still fighting for respect and to be taken serious as a national championship contender. They face a tough California team in this Big Ten vs Pac12 conference matchup. Braxton Miller is expected to play in Saturday’s match up. With the performance of Buckeyes back-up QB Kenny Guiton last weekend, head coach Urban Meyer will have a lot of confidence in playing Guiton if he decides to rest Miller. #JYPREDICTION: Ohio St

#20 Wisconsin (away) vs. Arizona State (home): Last season Wisconsin lost to Oregon State and is looking for revenge in this Big Ten vs. Pac12 battle the media is promoting everywhere this weekend. Arizona State defeated Sacramento St. in their first game 55-0 led by QB Taylor Kelly who passed for 300 yards and five touchdowns. The Badgers have had two shut out performances this season and RB Melvin Gordon III is a man amongst boys. I feel Wisconsin is too physical up front with their offensive line and will wear down on the Sun Devils defensively. #JYPREDICTION: Wisconsin

Illinois (home) vs. #19 Washington (away): Nathan Scheelhaase has been the most impressive early on in the non conference season. The Illini QB has been the talk of the Big Ten and rightfully so passing for 728 yards and six touchdowns in two games. Illinois beat a quality team in Cincinatti last week but this week #19 Washington Huskies come into Chicago, Illinois undefeated after beating #19 Boise St 38-6 in week one of the college season. Defensively I still question Illinois. This will be a close game at Soldier Field but I feel Washington will make plays in the end and the Illini will have a hard time getting the Huskies off the field. #JYPREDICTION: Washington

Purdue (home) vs. #21 Notre Dame (away): Purdue University Head Coach Darrell Hazell will be challenged in every aspect of football this weekend against Notre Dame. The good thing for Purdue, this will be good experience for their young team to battle a quality opponent and measure their growth as a team. I expect Boilermakers RB Akeem Hunt to make plays all over the field but Notre Dame should win this game convincingly. #JYPREDICTION: Notre Dame

#11 Michigan (home) vs. Akron (away): What a season the Michigan Wolverines is having so far this year. Some people are even favoring them to win the Big Ten Championship. Devin Gardner is improving each and every week, and this Wolverine defense is making plays up front and in the passing game. I’m expecting a dominate performance over Akron. #JYPREDICTION: Michigan

Penn State (home) vs. UCF (away): UCF QB Blake Borles has looked impressive with 528 yards and four touchdowns in two games. UCF comes into Beaver Stadium undefeated at 2-0, and they face a physical defense by the Nittany Lions. Penn State has home field advantage, and playing in front of 120,000 fans can be intimidating. Freshman QB Christian Hackenberg is still undefeated in his college career. This game will go back and forth. Penn State physical play which is their bread and butter. The Nittany Lions extend their winning streak to 3-0. #JYPREDICTION: Penn State

Iowa (home) vs. Iowa St (away): In-state rivals are the best because its all about recruiting and bragging rights. The Iowa Hawkeyes are 1-1 on the season with some momentum coming into this week with their win over Missouri State last weekend. Iowa State QB Sam B. Richardson threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns in their loss against Northern Iowa 28-20 in week one. Iowa State defense will have problems against the Hawkeyes but this game will be competitive. #JYPREDICTION: IOWA

#23 Nebraska(home) vs. #16 UCLA(away): This game will be a shootout, Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez against UCLA QB Brett Hundley. With two freshmen linebackers the Huskers will have a tough time with the Bruins offense. If this game was in California I would pick UCLA easily but I’m going to give Nebraska the benefit of a doubt in Lincoln, Nebraska and the Corn Huskers will pull off the upset Saturday on ABC. #JYPREDICTION: Nebraska

#17Northwestern (home) vs Western Michigan (away): QB Kain Colter and Trevor Siemian, RB Treyvon Green, WR Tony Jones, give the Wildcats too much fire power for the Western Michigan defense. Defensively the Wildcats make plays and score points. Northwestern run away with this game. #JYPREDICTION: Northwestern
