It was another fantastic week for the Big-12, as the only loss was in an inter-conference battle. The conference is packed, with five teams in the top 20. There’s a huge matchup this week, but we will get to that after we take a look at last weekend.
There were still a handful of small school beatdown this week. Iowa State rocked Western Illinois 37-3, while their opponent this week, Texas Tech, beat New Mexico 49-14. Baylor knocked off Sam Houston State 49-23, while Oklahoma State got back to their winning ways, registering a 65-24 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Now, let’s look at how the ranked teams fared. #12 Texas continued to roll with a big 66-31 win over SEC opponent Ole Miss. #15 Kansas State prepped for their huge matchup this week with a pedestrian 35-21 win over North Texas. Their opponent this week, #6 Oklahoma, were idle last week. #8 West Virginia stayed perfect with a 42-12 victory over James Madison, and to round it out, #17 TCU won their Big-12 opener with a 20-6 win over Kansas.
Now we have a huge matchup to look at, as #15 Kansas State travels to #6 Oklahoma. We haven’t seen much from Oklahoma so far this year. They struggled in their opener against UTEP, and they had a bye last week, giving them two weeks to prepare for this big matchup. Kansas State has looked fantastic so far this year, with the highlight being a 52-13 thumping of Miami FL. Here’s what I think happens. Kansas State jumps out to a lead, maybe 10-0 or 14-0, and Oklahoma spends most of the game coming back, ultimately winning the game 35-28 in that area.
That’s not the only big matchup in the Big-12 this week. In a battle of unbeatens so far, Texas Tech travels to Iowa State, and I like Texas Tech in this one. Neither team has play anyone of note, except for the Cyclones of Iowa State, who limped their way to a 9-6 win over Iowa. #12 Texas and Oklahoma State are both idle this week, and they will have two weeks to prepare for each other when they meet on September 29th.
What do you think of the matchups this week? Who do you like between Kansas State and Oklahoma? Let us know what you think!
