In 2009, the Raiders made one of the more….interesting picks in recent history when they traded up to get Maryland Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey 9th overall. Former owner, the late Al Davis, always loved speed on the field. and he reached to get a wide out that many thought would fall to the second round.  Since he’s been in the league, Heyward-Bey has been inconsistent at best, showing flashes of brilliance but not much more, as he’s been injury prone as well.  He had his best year in the league last year, and he’s been making plays in the preseason.  This was on display against Detroit over the weekend, as Heyward Bey notched an incredible one hand catch. Known primarily for his breakaway speed, Heyward-Bey showed he had some good hands as well with this play. Check it out here.

The Raiders can be a dangerous team if they stay healthy. That’s a huge if, as they played an injury carousel at wide receiver last year, in addition to the injuries to Darren McFadden.  I like Oakland as a sleeper in the AFC, but only IF they can stay healthy.
