79 days. That’s how long we have to wait until the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England commence. The Olympics are always some of the most exciting two weeks in the sports calender. The entire world tunes into one station to see world class athletes represent their country in the ultimate show of national pride and competitive nature. There are a few storylines to keep an eye out for this year: Michael Phelps competing in his final Olympic games, Usain Bolt trying to somehow top his dominant performance in the 2008 games, and the USA men’s basketball team will look to continue it’s unbeatable play that they had in the ’08 games. There was big news recently, as a picture of the official medals was released. Check it out here.
I like the look of these medals. They certainly look better then the 2010 medals from Vancouver, and let’s not even talk about the ones from 2006. These medals were designed by British artist David Watkins, and it features the Greek Goddess of Victory, Nike, on the front. The back features a combination of 5 symbols specific to the city of London itself. Will anyone be walking away with as many of these as Phelps did in 2008? Unlikely. That performance was one of a kind, and it’s hard to believe that we will ever see an Olympics dominated even close to that extent.
What do you think of the design? What are you most excited for this summer? Let us know in the comments!
