Vince Carter will forever be known as one of the, if not the, best dunker of all time. You can’t deny his amazing performance in the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest, and more importantly, he was still always a great in game dunker. But alas, nothing can last forever, and no one can stay young forever.
These days, Vince Carter is playing in Dallas, where he is a regular role player, who is still making some good plays. However, this is not one of them. Earlier this week, the Mavs were taking on the Kings, when Carter drove to an open lane. Now 8 years ago, Carter would have flown to the basket, walking on invisible steps on his way to another incredible dunk. But, well, let’s just say, that didn’t happen. Check it out.
Vince Carter Airballs a Layup
Yeah, the lost art of the layup is once again on display. Oh well, at least Carter can laugh at himself over it. Got to appreciate that. This got us thinking: what other funny layups can we find? Well look no further!
First we have Joel Anthony. Name doesn’t sound familiar? Well that’s because he’s one of the other starters for the Miami Heat. Anthony’s job is simple. Get rebounds. Play some good defense. Maybe score once or twice. Well against the Suns, Anthony tried the latter, and well, failed.
Joel Anthony Can’t Find The Rim
First, theres the travelling that wasn’t called. Next, you have the layup that doesn’t even draw iron. Pretty funny. Next, we have Marreese Speights. This clip is back in 2009, where Speights and his Sixers were taking on the Nuggets. Speights cut into the middle, and thought he had a wide open dunk. Unfortunately for him, Nene Hilario decided to play alittle defense, and Speights came up just alittle short. Check it out.
Wait…where did Nene Come From?
That’s pretty embarrassing, but at least there was a defender in his way. Now look, its easy for me to sit here at home and criticize these guys. I played basketball. Its a tough game. I know mistakes like these can happen in the middle of a tough hard fought game. So I can let these slide. But this last one, yeah I can’t do that. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Chris Anderson.
Ladies and Gentlemen: The Bad Part of the Dunk Contest
This took place in the sad years of the dunk contest in the mid 2000′s. Back then, believe it or not, there was no time limit! A player could take as many chances as they wanted to get their dunk. And yes, Kenny Smith said it at the end. 15 tries! That’s crazy!! You think at some point he would have given up on the half court alley oop.
Well I hope you enjoyed today’s Friday Fail! Have any suggestions for us? Let us know in the comments we are always looking for funny sports videos!
