There was a big matchup in LA last night as the old guard power house Lakers took on the young guns and current West favorites, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers were looking great at halftime, but Russell Westbrook took over in the 3rd quarter. The Thunder outscored the Lakers 34-19 in that quarter, on their way to a 102-93 win. Westbrook poured in 17 of his game high 36 in that quarter, ending it on this impressive coast to coast three.
Westbrook covers 50 feet in less then three seconds, crosses up a legend, then nails a perfect three pointer to end the quarter. And he finishes it with style, putting the smoking guns away. I tell you what: if Scott Brooks can keep Westbrook and Durant happy, there’s no reason that the Thunder shouldn’t be in the NBA finals for the next five years. The West is getting older, with teams like the Lakers, Spurs, and Maverick falling off, and the power is switching to the younger teams. The Twolves and Kings are still a couple of years away, but the Thunder are ready now. Watch out for them this summer.
